Stephenson, Jr. January 2002 The Christian Index Died on the 29th of May (1863), at her residence, near Crawfordville, Georgia, Mrs. Elizabeth (Hart) Chapman, in the 83rd year of her age. She united with the Baptist church at bethel, in 1813, since which time she has been an humble and devoted follower of Christ. Her home, which was ever open to the poor and distressed, was the court of domestic tranquility and love. When the discrepancy of age prevented her from joining at the altars of public worship, it was her delight to have the ministers of God and his people to meet at her house, and there unite in the worship of the Lord, in whom was her stay and trust. From the commencement of her last illness, which lasted many months, she felt that her Savior was calling her home, and often expressed the desire, if it was her Lord’s will, to be taken from the frailties of earth. The world lost all its attractions for her, in contemplation of that brighter land beyond the grave. The grave was robbed of its victory, death of its sting, as calmly she yielded her soul to the Lord who gave it. While her aged husband, with many relations and friends, are left to mourn the loss of the dearest of earthly friends, it is their great consolation to know their loss is her eternal gain; and while we feel that the loving and faithful wife, the tender and devoted mother, the kind and amiable friend, will no more return to us, yet we may go to her where parting will be no more.
