Stephenson, Jr. January 2002 CHAPMAN. - Died, at his residence, near Crawfordville, Ga., on the 8th of July 1868, Nathan Chapman, in the 92nd year of his age. For about 55 years he was a worthy consistent member of the Bethel Baptist church. He was an ardent lover of the truth, as held by the Baptist denomination. He firmly believed that our doctrines were divine, and acted according to that belief. Standing among us, almost alone for the past generations, he was strongly in favor of continuing unchanged in almost everything but especially in church matters, the principles and practices of the faithful of former days. He believed in strict discipline in the church - that all the members should be required to live according to their profession. And in this he set them an example. His love of the truth and devotion to the house of God, led him to attend public worship long after it was necessary, from age and infirmity, to have assistance in and out of the church. His affili9ctions and sufferings were severe, yet he bore them with patience and resignation. Brother C. was much respected by the whole community and leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to cherish his memory and morn his demise.
