A native of Taliaferro County Mr. Lunsford was the son of the late W. O. Lunsford and Mamie Rives Lunsford. He was a retired printer with the U.S. government, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his widow Mrs. Susie T. Lunsford, Crawfordville; one daughter, Mrs. Annie Ruby Smith, Macon, Ga.; two sons, W. O. Lunsford, Athens, Ga., and Roy Lunsford, Jr. Atlanta; three sisters, Mrs. Carson Durham, Union Point, Ga., Mrs. A. S. Gibson, Thomaston, Ga., and Mrs. Aubry Hackney, Washington, Ga.; three brothers, Raymond Lunsford, Washington, Ga., James O. Lunsford and Charles H. Lunsford, both of Detroit, Mich.; five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church, Crawfordville, with the Rev. W. H. Russell officiating. Additional Comments: Newton Roy Lunsford, Sr. was born January 2, 1897, Taliaferro County, GA, son of William Oscar Lunsford and Mary Leone"Mamie" Rives. He was married to Susie Olivia Taylor, January 7, 1922, Crawfordville, GA. Notes from Vivian Toole "Vivian Toole" Mrs. Carson Durham, listed in the obituary but now deceased, nee Lottie Lenora Lunceford, was my aunt by marriage. She married Carson Gordon Durham in Taliaferro County, Georgia, in 1934. She was Church Clerk at Bethesda Baptist Church for years. Carson Gordon Durham was one of my mother's older brothers. Their grandchildren/grandson now has Durhamtown Plantation, a sports resort (mostly hunting camp and 4-wheeler trails),in eastern Greene County on Randolph Church Road between Daniel Springs and Temperance Bell Crossroads/Woodville.
