PERCY PHELPS DIES AT
LOCAL HOSPITAL
   Percy Phelps, 76, died last night at a local hospital after an extended 
illness.  Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Elliott Sons.
   Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Rhodes Phelps, two sons, J. A., and 
Howard Phelps of Augusta; two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Hill and Mrs. Ted Connor of 
Augusta; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

FINAL RITES TODAY 
FOR PERCY PHELPS
   Funeral services for Percy Phelps, 75, of 927 Merry Street, who died Friday 
night at a local hospital, will be held at Woodlawn Baptist church this 
afternoon at 4 o’clock.  The Rev. C. A. Forrester and the Rev. E. C. Sheridan 
will officiate.  Interment will be in Westover Memorial Park cemetery.
   Pallbearers will be:  Robert Buhler, Julian Garrett, Rudolph Buhler, Joe C. 
Ward, Cason Smith and J. D. Leve---?.  
   Mr. Phelps, a native of Taliaferro county, Ga., was a retired creamery 
operator and had resided in Augusta for 25 years.

Percy Phelps was born August 5, 1873, Taliaferro Co., died April 9, 1948, 
Augusta, GA (buried Westover Cemetery, Augusta), son of John W. Phelps and 
Luella Self.  He was married December 7, 1892, Taliaferro Co., to Mattie Tilkey 
Rhodes, daughter of Reuben B. Rhodes and Letitia Courtney.
