Alva G. Taylor
Washington, Ga., Dec. 11 –
Alva Grey Taylor, 69, died at his home in Washington Friday morning at 11 a.m. 

Born in Taliaferro county, Mr. Taylor had lived for a number of years in Green 
county, moving about eight years ago to Wilkes where he was a well known 
farmer.  His wife was the former Mary Fitz of Taliaferro county.  His parents 
were the late William Chesley Taylor and Sarah Elizabeth Darracott Taylor both 
of Taliaferro county.

Funeral services will be held from Hopkins Funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. with 
the Rev. B. G. Munro and the Rev. Owen Hoffman officiating.  Interment will be 
in the cemetery of Bethany Presbyterian church in Green county, of which he was 
a member.

Survivors are his wife, three sons, Chesley and Clifford Taylor of Washington, 
George Taylor of Norfolk, Va., four daughters, Mrs. Orlando Mathis of Norfolk, 
Va., Mrs. Nelly Grey Brown, Mrs. Charles Wolf and Mrs. Clinton Whelis of 
Washington; three sisters, Mrs. Rufus Rider of Washington, Mrs. Courtney Rhodes 
and Mrs. Roy Lunceford of Crawfordville; one brother, Lonnie Taylor of Alameda, 
Calif. and 15 grandchildren.

Alva Grey Taylor was born October 4, 1884, Taliaferro Co., GA, died December 
11, 1953, Wilkes Co. GA, son of William Chesley Taylor and Sarah 
Elizabeth “Sallie” Darracott.  He was married August 9, 1905, Taliaferro Co. to 
Mary M. Fitts, only child  of Clarence Oscar Fitts by his first wife, Fannie 
Clifford Rhodes.
