Joseph Roger Brooke was born in Charles Co., MD. 21 Dec. 1783 and died 26 Aug. 
1856 in Lauderdale Co., Mississippi. Joseph's body was returned to Locust 
Grove for burial. 



Additional Comments:
Joseph R. Brooke was a member of the Church of the Purification of the Blessed 
Virgin Mary. The Purfication Church was the first Catholic Church in the state 
of Georgia. A log church was built at Locust Grove by a group of Maryland 
Catholics about 1790. The church was later relocated to Sharon Georgia, but 
the old cemetery is located at Locust Grove, Taliaferro Co., Georgia.
