Last Name First Name Middle Name Birth Death Comment -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whatley Samuel 1826 Additional Comments: "Samuel Whatley is buried in an unnamed cemetery on private property, off Silas Mercer Rd., in Taliaferro Co. (formerly Wilkes Co.). This cemetery was visited by Jerry and Phil McGinty, Tom wood and Terri Saturday on March 13, 2008. There are at lease twenty graves here, but none have inscriptions but that of Whatley. This land was originally owned by either Whatley or Silas Mercer. Whatley was pastor at Phillips Mill Baptist Church in 1821, and died in 1826. The Whatley inscription is well worn and not all legible, but part of it says, "Sacred To The Memory of The Rev. Samuel Whatley." There is also a footer with the initials "S W" inscribed on it. This historical marker on Whatley is located at the Kettle Creek Battle site."
