Chapman of Taliaferro County State of Georgia being of sound mind and memory, do make my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others by me at any time made. Item 1st. I desire and hereby direct that my executors hereinafter named, as soon after my death as practicable pay all my just debts out of the money I may then have, and if there is not enough to do so, I hereby direct that a sufficiency of my perishable property be sold to pay such debts. Item 2nd. I do give and bequeath to my (children) W. T. Chapman, J. S. Chapman and Mary F. Hill, the remainder of all my possessions, lands, stock, household and kitchen furniture, and all other property, including money, notes and accounts, the same to be equally divided among the three children named. I desire that the lands thus coming in the possession of my daughter Mary F. Hill, be for the sole and separate use of her and her children, and direct that the same be free from disposition of her present or future husband, except by written consent of my daughter Mary F. Hill, in which case I desire that the proceeds of lands sold, be judiciously invested in other land. Item 3rd. I do appoint my sons W. T. Chapman and J. S. Chapman executors to this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I set my hand and seal, and publish this as my last will in presence of witnesses. This 29 December 1896. Signed: James R. He was married March 22, 1836 to Nancy King, daughter of Richard and Rachel (Dearborn) King. James and Nancy had three children: (1) William Thomas Chapman, born Feb. 1, 1837, Taliaferro Co., died March 27, 1920, Taliaferro Co. He was married Oct. 8, 1859, Taliaferro Co., to Emeline Jane Gunn, dau. of John Robert and Sarah (Chapman) Gunn. (2) James Samuel Chapman, born June 3, 1839, Taliaferro Co., died April 10, 1918. He was married December 11, 1865, Taliaferro Co., to Mary Susan Greison (aka Greeson), daughter of Peyton and Narcissa (Battle) Greison. (3) Mary Frances Chapman, born Oct. 2, 1842, Taliaferro Co., died July 26, 1921, Taliaferro Co. She was married April 8, 1869, Taliaferro Co., to Wyatt A. Hill, son of Henry and Lillian “Lilla” Ann (Sheffield) Hill. (Note: The marriage record for Henry and Lilla (Dec. 13, 1827, Warren Co.), gives her name as Lillian Sheffield. There are some researchers who show her as Villa Ann Sheffield.)
