B, Pages 162-164 Written: March 25, 1881 Recorded: August 12, 1886 Will of William Reid Georgia Taliaferro County In the name of God Amen. I William Reid of said State and county being of advanced age but of sound and disposing mind and memory. Knowing that I must shortly depart this life deem it right and proper that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind providence has blessed me, I do therefore make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and annulling all other wills or codicils[?] heretofore made by me. Item 1st I desire and direct that all of my just debts be paid by Executor hereinafter named as soon as practicable after my death. Item 2nd I will and bequeathe to my beloved wife Nancy Reid all of my estate consisting of lands stock notes & accounts and every description and specia of property owned by me, for and during the natural life of my said wife Nancy Reid and at her death to be disposed of as hereinafter set forth , none of the bequests hereinafter made to take effect until after the death of my said wife Nancy Reid. Item 3rd After the death of my said wife Nancy Reid it is my will and desire that my granddaughter Della Asbury Tappin shall have out of my estate the sum of Five Hundred Dollars, the said amount here[?] devised to my said granddaughter Della Asbury Tappan I direct shall be held by my executor (hereinafter named) as trustee until the marriage of the said Della, when I direct that the same shall be turned over to her for her sole use and benefit - to be free from ___ debts liabilities or contracts of her husband. I hereby empower my Executor when acting as trustee for my said granddaughter Della Asbury Tappan to invest the said sum herein devised to her in such manner and in such specia of property as they may deem best. Item 4th If my said Grandaughter Della Asbury Tappan should died before arriving at the age of twenty one years or before her marriage, I then direct that the legacy here before mentioned shall revert to my estate and be disposed of as heretofore mentioned. Item 5th After the death of my said wife Nancy Reid it is my will and desire that my son Alexander H. Reid shall out of my estate the sum of One[?] Thousand Dollars. Item 6th After the death of my said wife Nancy Reid its my will and desire that my Daughter Anna Hall wife of Thomas Stocks Hall, shall have out of my estate the sum of Five Hundred Dollars. Item 7th After the death of my said wife Nancy Reid its my will and desire that all the balance and residue of my estate be equally divided between any of my children and the representatives of my deceased children that is to say, that my grand children are to receive per capita and not per stirpes, they are simply to receive what portion or part would have been received by their deceased parents. This distribution of the residue of my estate, under this item is to make without reference or ____ accounting for any advancements I have heretofore made to any of my said children or grandchildren in any bequests herein contained. Item 8th I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my son Alexander H. Reid and my Son in Law Thomas Stocks Hall my Executors. Flynt, Ordinary of Taliaferro County Know all whom it may concern that on the 30th day of November 1885 the last will and testament of William Reid deceased at the time of his death a citizen of said county and was legally at a regular term of the court of ordinary a copy of which is annexed duly certified at which time an order was also taken to allow Alexander H. Reed & Thomas Stocks Hall, named Executor in said will to qualify and that letters testamentary should issue them upon qualifying as such executors. Now therefore the said Alexander H. Reid & Thomas Stocks Hall, having taken the oath of office and complied with all necessary prerequisites of the law is Legally authorized to discharge all the duties of an Executor on the will of William Reid to administer the property of said deceased which is devised according to the will and the law of the land. To render a true and perfect inventory and appraisement of all and singular the goods and chattels rights and credits of said deceased and make returns of them to the ordinary of Taliaferro county; and further to report annually to the same officer the situations of said estate his actings and doings until his executorship is fully discharged and he fully execute(s) said will. Flynt, Ordinary, Taliaferro County Additional Comments: William Reid was born about 1806, GA, died 1886, Taliaferro Co., GA. It is thought that he was son of James and Rebecca (Duke) Reid. He was married February 6, 1828, Greene Co., GA, to Nancy Jarrell, daughter of Redden Jarrell and Martha Peek. Della Asbury Tappan, mentioned in the above will as William Reid's granddaughter, was daughter of Ella R. Reid and George W. Tappan. Ella (Reid) Tappan died July 15, 1874 and is buried at White Plains Cemetery, Greene Co., GA. The 1880 census shows that Della A. Tappan, age 6, was living in the household of her grandparents, William and Nancy Reid.
