B, Pages 16-19 Written: March 2, 1867 Recorded: April 15, 1867 Will of Nancy Chapman Reynolds In the name of God, Amen. I Nancy Reynolds of the State of Georgia and County of Taliaferro being of sound mind and disposing memory do make declare and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and annulling all other wills heretofore made by me. Whereas my late husband John W. Reynolds departed this life intestate leaving me the Sole heir to his estate, which I have taken control & possession of without legal administration and after the payment of all the just debts of my said husband, if any debts should yet remain unpaid against him, I do hereby make the following disposition of the property of every kind and description which I have received, or which may be coming to me, from the estate of my said husband John W. Reynolds deceased. Item 1st. I will and bequeathe to my nephew Jabez M. Lacy in trust for the Sole and Separate use of his little Son Charles P. Lacy until he arrives at twenty one years of age the following property, to wit, the plantation that belonged to my said husband at the time of his death, lying in said county of Taliaferro on the waters of Powels Creek adjoining the land of William Peek, William Johnson, Aseneth Lightfoot and others. Also all the mules, horses, cattle, hogs, _____ tools of every kind and description, provisions and _____ and every other species and kind of property that may be on and belonging to said plantation at the time of my death. Also all the crop of every kind and description that may be grown or produced on the said plantation the _____ year. Also one bed bedstead and sufficiency of bed clothing for one bed. And when the said Charles P. Lacy arrives at twenty one years of age it is my will and desire that the said Jabez M. Lacy turn over and deliver to him the said plantation and all the other property herein given to him in trust except such as he may have expended in the support and education of the said Charles P. Lacy. I also give to the said Jabez M. Lacy in like manner the gold watch, chain, and key that belonged to my said husband at the time of his death, to hold for the Said Charles P. Lacy until he is old enough to know how to take care of a watch and then I wish to turn over said watch, chain and key to him the said Charles P. But should the said Charles P. Lacy die before arriving at twenty one years of age leaving neither wife nor child living at the time of his death, I wish all the property herein willed to him to be equally divided between his father and his grand mother Mrs. Nancy Lacy. Item 2nd. I will and bequeath to my niece Mary Frances Jourdan my bed and bedstead, known in the family as Mr. Jennings bed together with bed clothing enough for one bed. Item 3rd. I will and bequeath to my Sister Mrs. Emily Jourdan all my wearing apparel of every kind and description – also my gold framed spectacles that belonged to my Said husband at the time of his death. Item 4th. I will and bequeath to my Sister Mrs. Pheriba Pierce my gold framed spectacles which I have used also my _______ breast pin. Item 5th. To my friend Mrs. Mary Kent, wife of Dr. John J. Kent I give my Buggy and harness and Buggy umbrella and cushions. Item 6th. I wish my brother in law S. L. Jourdan to remain at my house until the twenty fifth day of December next and to let the freed people that I have hired for this year also remain on my lot to make and gather their crop according to the contracts I have made with them for this year. Item 7th. After the payment of all my just debts and such just claims as may come against the estate of my said husband, and the expenses in Settling of my estate, and for putting tombstones over the graves of myself and my said husband, I will and bequeath all the balance of my property consisting of my house and lot whereon I now live, about Six hundred dollars in gold coin and about forty dollars in Silver coin which I now have on hand, my two mules and three wagons now on my lot, all my notes accounts and other evidences of debts, all my house hold and kitchen furniture not herein otherwise disposed of, and every other kind and species of property not herein otherwise disposed belonging to or coming to me from the estate of my said husband, to my trusty friend Rev. L.R.L. Jennings in trust to turn over and deliver to the Baptist Convention of the State of Georgia to be by Said Convention used and expended in promoting and forwarding such benevolent objects and purposes as in their judgment it will do the most good. Item 8th. I nominate constitute and appoint George F. Bristow, Rev. L.R.L. Jennings, and Dr. John J. Kent Executors to this my last Will and Testament on these four pages herein before written and I authorize and inform them to sell or dispose of any of the property bequeathed in the Seventh item of this will as they may think best either at private or public sale. Farmer Elizabeth Moore Georgia Taliaferro County April Term 1867 Court of Ordinary In the matter of the Will of Nancy Reynolds deceased, Ordered that the Will be admitted to record as satisfactorily proven in common form on the evidence of John W. Darracott one of the witnesses thereto, and that two of the Executors therein named, to wit, George F. Bristow and John J. Kent who have petitioned therefore, have leave to qualify, and upon doing so, that letters testamentary issue to them. J.D. Hammack Ordinary Letters Testamentary Georgia Taliaferro County By the Ordinary of Said County – Know ye, that on the first day of April in the year of our Lord 1867, the last will and testament of Nancy Reynolds of Said county deceased, was exhibited in open Court, and in common form of law, proved and admitted to record, a copy of which is here amended; and Administration of all and Singular the goods, chattels, credits, land and tenements of said deceased, was granted to George F. Bristow and John J. Kent, two of the Executors, in and by said will named and appointed, they having first taken the oath and performed all other requests required by law, are by order of said Court and by virtue of these presents, legally authorized to administer the goods, chattels, credits, lands and tenements of said deceased according to the tenor and effect of said will and testament and according to law, and are hereby required to render a true and perfect Inventory of all and Singular the goods, chattels, credits, lands and tenements of the said deceased appraised and returned to this Court according to law, and to render a true and correct account to the Ordinary of Taliaferro County of their actings and doings, yearly until their administration is fully completed. Hammack Ordinary Additional Comments: (Note: Although Nancy refers to her sisters in her will, they were actually her sisters-in-law, and Jabez Lacey was her nephew-in-law. (His mother was Nancy Reynolds who married Pleasant Lacey, Sept. 15 1825, Warren Co., GA) Nancy (Chapman) Reynolds was born December 25, 1814, GA, died March 3, 1867, Taliaferro Co., and is buried at Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery. She was the only daughter of Thomas Chapman and Sarah Hart. Nancy had three brothers, William H. Chapman, Nathan Chapman, and James R. Chapman. Nancy Chapman was married twice: (1) July 19, 1835, Taliaferro Co., to George W. Reynolds (aka Runnels). By this marriage Nancy had four daughters: Sarah Ann H. Reynolds, married Edward A Holmes, Susan Ann Rebecca Reynolds, Martha Ann Reynolds, and George Ann Reynolds. None of her daughters were mentioned in her will. George Reynolds died about 1841-42, and Nancy married (2) February 27, 1851, Taliaferro Co., to John W. Reynolds. Apparently there were no children by this marriage.
