They settled in the PeeDee River area, settling on a 200 acre tract on the south side of the river. This is in modern-day Chesterfield County. By 1754, the family moved to new lands located on Lynches Creek, attending that Baptist church there. A few years later, in 1759, Hardy served in the Cherokee Indian War. He was a member in Capt. William Cautey's company, who were under the command of Col. Richard Richardson. By 1765, Hardy left home, moving even further south. He settled in Beaufort District, South Carolina, on the north side of the Savannah River. Later on, most of his family, including parents William and Judith DeLoach, moved there as well. The cause for the migration may have been either a lure of safety from the ongoing threat of Indians, or it may have been precipitated by dissenters from the Lynches Creek Church. Upon arrival in Beaufort District, the DeLoaches attended Beach Branch Baptist Church. He married Elizabeth Hart in 1756, and they had six children. As the Revolutionary War began and spread throughout the colonies, Hardy, along with brothers Michael and William and several sons, served in the Army in South Carolina. In 1790 he was still living in Beaufort District, South Carolina, living along Pipe Creek (now located in Hampton County). During that decade, he, along with several children, moved to the other side of the Savannah River, into Effingham County, Georgia. He may have died there in 1820, or he may have returned to South Carolina. While he is not listed in any census for that year, he may have been living with one of his children.
