He was one of Henry Holland’s sons. There was a Reuben Nail in Tattnall County in the 1820 and 1830 census. There was a William Conyers in Washington County (just to the west of Tattnall) in 1820. No mention of him in 1830.] Georgia} Tattnall County} To the Honorable the Superior Court to be holden in and fer the County and State aforesaid. The petition of Frederick Holland bearer specifically showeth that Reuben Nail of the County and State aforesaid owes to your petitioner the sum of two hundred dollars besides interest. For that the said Reuben …tofore to wit on the ninth day of August in the year eighteen hundred and twenty one in the County aforesaid made his certain investment in writing commonly called a promissory note, signed with his own proper hand, which is now here shown to the court. Whereby the said Reuben promised on or before the first day of January next ensuing the date of said note, to pay unto William Conyers or bearer the sum of two hundred dollars for value received – and afterwards to wit on the sixth day of December in the year eighteen hundred twenty three the said note became the property of your petitioner by an indorsement on the back of the said note of which the said Reuben then and there had …. notice, and afterwards to wit on the day and year aforesaid he the said Reuben undertook and promised faithfully to pay your petitioner the said sum of money agreeable to the terns and effect of the said note. He was a lawyer and old enough to have been practicing in this case. Richmond County was also the seat of the superior court serving Tattnall.
