Deposition of Angus McLeod re: sale of a hog 26 Feb 1810 Tatnall Co., GA Richmond County, North Carolina Civil Action Papers CR.082.325.9 - North Carolina Archives/Raleigh 1810 February 26. State of Georgia, Tatnall County. At the house of Ezekiel Clifton personally appeared before us, Benjamin Strickling and Ezekiel Clifton, two of the Justices appointed to keep the peace for and in said County, Angus McLeod and being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God and examined answereth the following interrogatives. Question: What do you know respecting the sale of a hog that William McLeod sold to Angus McInnis both of the County of Richmond, State of North Carolina? Answer: Sometime in December 1807 or in Jan. 1808 (at the home of Alexander McLeod Jun.) Angus McInnis tried to purchase a certain sow from me that I owned that used about McInnis's, but we could not agree about the price and William McLeod going up into that settlement a few days afterwards, I directed him to sell the sow to said McInnis if he met with him. When he came back he told me he had sold said sow to Mr. McInnis for five yards of homespun cloth. Question: Do you recollect whether it was a sow that had worn a bell that McInnis tried to purchase from you, or another sow larger and redder that the bell sow? Answer: I do well recollect that the bell sow was sold previous to that to John Shaw and the other was the one that he tried to purchase from me. Question: Can you describe the difference between the bell sow that said McInnis tried to purchase from you? Answer: I can. The bell sow was a light red inclined to a whitish sanded with a lighter colour than the rest of her and the sow that said McInnis tried to purchase from me, and that I afterwards directed said William McLeod to sell for me, was larger and redder than the bell sow. I know that said McInnis was well acquainted with them both. This deponent further saith not. Angus McLeod. Sworn to before us this 16th day of Feb'y 1810. Benj. Strickling and Ezekiel Clifton.
