Georgia, Tattnall County This indenture made and entered into this the eighteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-three between Stephen Matlock of the one part, and Jonathan Anderson, Wiley W. Standley, Shadrack Standley, and Jordon Poppell of the other part, all of the same State, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to them in hand paid by the said Stephen Matlock, we just the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath bargained, sold and delivered, and by these presents doth bargain, sell and deliver to the said Stephen Matlock, his heirs and assigns, two certain lots or parcels of land containing two hundred and fifty acres, more or less, lying and being in the State and County aforesaid, lying on the waters of Watermelon Creek and on the waters of the river swamp, surveyed by Shadrack Standley, held by Shadrack Standley, junior, at his death, to have and to hold the said tracts or parcels of land to the proper use andbenefit and behoof of them, the said Stephen Matlock, his heirs and assigns, executors and administrators, in the fee simple; and us, the said heirs of Shadrack Standley, Jr., Johnathon Anderson, Wiley W. Standley, Shadrack Standley, and Jordon Poppell against ourselves, our heirs and them and by we do warrant and defend our rights of said lands above mentioned and appurtances to Stephen Matlock, his heirs and assigns, forever. Georgia, Tattnall County In person appeared before the undersigned, Zachariah Hall, who being duly sworn deposeth and says that he was present and saw Wiley W. Standley, Shadrack Standley, and Jordan Poppell; and Jonathan Anderson sign, seal and deliver the within deed for the purposes therein contained, and that David Hall was a subscribing witness to the same with himself. RHB, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: There is no record of Jonathan's death, however, a document dated April 23, 1850 and filed with the clerk's office of Superior court in Tattnall Co., Reidsville, GA does provide for his wife Rebecca (and therefore we assume a valid marriage). FACTS FOR REBECCA & JONATHAN ANDERSON: Fact 1: In 1850 census of Liberty Co., GA, there is a Wiley W. Standley, 30 years, born GA...wife Lamendin, 30 yrs., children: Allist T., blind; Raiford, 3; Mary, 8; Shadrak, 6. Also living in the home was Mrs. Anderson, 53 yrs., b. SC and James Moody, Jr., 20, laborer. Family #51. Fact 2: In 1845, May 5th, Jonathan Anderson was the administrator of the estate of Mrs. Elizabeth Grubbs, who he had taken care of for 5 years.
