Roy James Harris, Jr. - MIDWAY - Roy James Harris, Jr., 84, of Midway, Ga. died
Tuesday May 10, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was preceded in death by two
brothers, Joe and James Harris. He was born in Collins, Ga. but lived most of
his life in Midway, Ga. He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U.S.
Navy, and was a member of the Westside Baptist Church, the National Rifle
Association, and the National Republican Party and was a graduate of the
University of Georgia. He retired from Civil Service as Comptroller Budget
Officer at Fort Stewart, Ga. after 32 years of service. He is survived by his
wife, Monice Naomi Harris of Midway, Ga.; 2 sons, Roy James Harris, III
(Melinda) and Vance Stokes Harris (Donya); 1 daughter, Lisa Bernice Harris; 1
sister, Emily Elliott Peterson; 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6 - 8 pm Friday May 13, 2011 at Fairhaven Funeral Home Hubert C.
Baker Chapel 7415 Hodgson Memorial Dr. Savannah, Ga. Funeral Service: 11 am
Saturday at Westside Baptist Church, 108 Welborn Street, Hinesville, Ga. Mr.
Harris will be taken to the First Baptist Church of Collins, Georgia to lie in
state from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, with interment to follow in the Church
Cemetery.
