Probable siblings are Benjamin, John, and William. The surname Averett is spelled various ways on Records: Everett, Avert, Avent We estimate that he and Elizabeth Smith married on Aug 23, 1808 in Hancock County. [I would like to have a copy of the marriage license] Elizabeth (age 14 if born in 1794; Drury (age 18 if born in 1790) Elizabeth died around 1841 and is probably buried on the Averett homeplace (Talbot at the time of her death, but Taylor later). Drury died around 1869, and is also probably buried there as well. Neither have a marker that survived. Children: 1.Mary Averett born 1813 ? in Hancock Co. Henry James born 1840, Oct 14 Son (Elizabeth would have been 46 if born in 1794. [might be 1834 and then Elizabeth would have been only 40 years old] Died: Jan 18, 1882 buried Layfield Cemetery Taylor Co.m. Permelia Ann Layfield (d/o George Layfield) Drury Averett probably first arrived in this section of Georgia some time after 1827. The family at the time of the move would have been: Drury ?37; Elizabeth ? 33; Mary 14; Sarah 11; Nancy 7; Lourany 1; W. Allen, infant or Elizabeth may have been pregnant with him. Would have crossed three major rivers: Oconee, Ocmulgee, and Flint to get to the land! Daughter Mary (age 16) married to Thomas Dupree (22yr) 29 Aug 1829 Talbot Co. This was not very long after they arrived in this part of the state. Don't know if the knew the Dupree family from other connections. LAND OWNED 1811 March 8. Hancock Co. Drury buys 300 acres from the Estate of his father?, John Averitt (Adm were his brother, David and Matthew) Northwardly by Little Ogeechy, westwardly by Dixon's land, eastwardly by Jacob Carter & Amos Hicks land & Southwardly by Worthern's land. Containing three hundred acres 1812 Hancock Co. Tax List. Archibald Averett, Benjamin Averett, Drury Averett jointly owned 175 acres of land ajoining Dixon. Drury also owned 2 slaves. (Since they jointly owned the land, it would suggest tht maybe they inherited it) Other neighbors: James Blair 130 acres of pine on Little Ogechee adjoins Averett Mile Rachaels 3 slaves and 100 acres of pine on Little Ogechee originally granted to Averett West Vinson owned 1 slave and 470 acres of pine on Little Ogeechee which was originally granted to Averett.
