Clark's remains are buried at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Taylor County. There are no dates indicated on his tombstone but his 1902 pension application gives his birth date as November 28, 1844. His widow's pension application gives his death date as August 16, 1918. He was a member of Company B of the 22nd Battalion, Georgia Heavy Artillery, CSA having enlisted in Macon County, Georgia on December 25, 1862. He surrendered, along with many other Confederate soldiers, in Goldsboro, NC on April 11, 1865 - the same day that Lee surrendered at Appomatox. John Clark is listed in the 1860 Macon County census - the 14 year old son of Richard and Eliza Clark. Richard and Elizabeth Simpson Clark married in Wilkinson County, GA on May 29, 1828. They are listed in the 1850 Muscogee County census with several children including a son John, age 5. Other records from Muscogee show them as members of Old Mount Paran Church having joined between 1837 and 1846. Another member of the church that joined after 1860 was Angeline Gunn. John F. Clark married Angeline Clark Gunn on May 24, 1866 in Macon County, Georgia. The marriage is recorded in the Macon County Marriage Book, Book B. The date is confirmed in Angeline Clark's widow's pension application filed in Taylor County, August 23, 1918. Angeline Clark’s death certificate lists her father as William Clark and her place of birth as Chattahoochee County, GA. The death certificate lists the death date as September 4, 1925, instead of September 20, 1925, as recorded on the tombstone. Her mother’s name is listed as unknown but census records and The History of Chattahoochee County show that her mother’s name was Martha Stockdale. Martha Stockdale died when Angeline was about 5 years old and Angeline’s father remarried. The Gunn name on Angeline’s tombstone and the marriage record is from Angeline’s first marriage to A. M. Gunn. This marriage was recorded in Chattahoochee County in 1861. A. M. Gunn was killed in the war in 1863.
