FRANKLIN L.Q.C. Franklin is the son of Singleton Franklin born Nov 6, 1828 in Hancock Co. Georgia. Singleton Franklin married Candace Temple in Hancock Co GA in 1812, and this is probably the mother of LQC. He died in Chicot Co, AR after 1900. The name is from Roman History Lucius Quinctus Cincinnatus (519-430 BC) famous Roman General and Stateman, a model of Roman virtue. The name was used in several families in Georgia. He is known by Lucius, Quentius as well as L.C. but used his full name Quintus L.C. Franklin when he enlisted as 1st Lieut Co D 11th Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers. L.C. Franklin served briefly. According to family stories, he and his older brother both enlisted. But LC was the sheriff of Neshoba Co, MS, and he was sent home to continue that job, while his brother continued to serve. This brother was a Colonel by war's end, and when he got home, his wife was dead and his 2 daughters had married and moved to Texas, so he did too. LC continued to live in Neshoba Co, MS, farming. I don't have any details as to the particular place where they lived. His family appears in the Marion County (which became Taylor County in 1852) 1850 Census: Franklin, Singleton 63 m farmer $1300 GA Alex 21 m farmer GA [1829] Quentius 20 m student GA [1830] Ann 15 f [1835] In same district: Jinks, Willis 42 SC Nicey 30 f SC John 16 m Betsy Ann 11 Polly Ann 9 Tolliver 7 Wm H 2 Martin, Frances 62 f They probably moved from Hancock County to Marion, and According to the Family Bible, they were married 23 Dec 1852 in Taylor County, Georgia. (L.C. Franklin and Elizabeth Jinks) listed in a family Bible, [Diana M. Gunnarson" has a copy of a handwritten transcription of those entries]. Elizabeth is listed in this same family Bible thus: "Elizabeth, wife of L.C. Franklin, Departed this life April 25th 1935, age 98 yrs 2 mo 13 d." She is listed in the Taylor- Jinks family Bible as born Feb 12, 1837, daughter of Willis and Nicey Martin Jinks. They had moved to Mississippi when their daughter, Martha F. was born in 1855. Had 10 children: Martha F (married R.P. Salter 1879) Singleton (Mar 25, 1857 - Dec 27, 1940) Ida Elizabeth Susan Ella Young A John Willis Hamilton Minnie Elizabeth's sister and family , Winnie Jinks Ruffin, left Georgia around 1886 and moved to Ellis County, Texas. I wonder if they visited with Elizabeth's family en route?
