FRANKLIN Lucius Cincinnatus Franklin was born Nov 6, 1828, as listed in his family Bible, in Hancock County, GA, son of Singleton Franklin and Candace Temple. He first appears in official records in the 1850 census for Marion County, GA, in the household of his father Singleton. He married Elizabeth Jinks in Taylor County, GA, on Dec 23, 1852. (Source: Franklin family Bible.) The Jinks family were neighbors in Marion County, GA, according to the 1850 census. Taylor County, where Lucius and Elizabeth were married, was created from Marion County in 1852. Their first child was born in Aug 1854 in Neshoba County, MS, so L.C. and Elizabeth moved to Mississippi prior to Aug 1854. Alex H. Franklin, brother to L.C., Singleton Franklin, father to L.C., and Ann Franklin Williamson, sister to L.C., also moved to Neshoba County, MS, during the 1850s. In the 1860 census, L.C. is listed in Neshoba Co, MS, with his wife and 2 children, where he is serving as sheriff. Lucius was known by several names. There was a highly regarded Roman general and statesman named Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus, whose name appears rather often in the 1800s as parents named their children with names to inspire those children. According to the family Bible, L.C. was named Lucius Cincinnatus, but he adopted the additional name of Quintus as well. In the 1850 census, he is listed as Quintus. When he enlisted in the 11th Mississippi Infantry, Company D, he used the name of Quintus L.C. Franklin. L.C. and his brother Alex both enlisted in Company D, 11th Mississippi Infantry, in Neshoba Co, MS, on Apr 13, 1861. L.C. enlisted as a first lieutenant, his brother Alex enlisted as a captain. L.C. resigned his commission after one year on Apr 21, 1862,and returned home to his wife and 3 children and his job as sheriff. Alex stayed another year, returning in Feb 1863 as a lieutenant colonel. (Source: Civil War Muster Rolls, box #000232, extraction #0014, record #00000429.) L.C. and his Elizabeth had 10 children: Martha Frances, Singleton, Lula J., Ida Elizabeth, Susan Ella, Lucius Joseph, John Willis, Hamilton Smith, Etheline, and Roscoe. Lula died at 2 years of age, but the other 9 lived to adulthood. Between 1880 and 1900, L.C. and Elizabeth moved to Chicot County, AR. L.C. died there on Oct 6, 1901. Elizabeth moved in with son Lucius Joseph and his family, also in Chicot County, AR, where she is found for the 1910 and 1920 censuses. According to the family Bible, she died on Apr 25, 1935, aged 98 years, 2 months, 13 days.
