He was born Sept 17, 1807 (per tombstone) Willis Jinks was a farmer. This Jinks family was part of the Oglethorpe Co. Jinks line and continued to move westward across Georgia. Willis and his younger brother, Wilborn, with their father, William, were some of the first white settlers on White Water Creek in what was then Muskogee Co, GA (later Talbot/Marion Counties and now Taylor Co) Muscogee County was formed from Creek Indian Lands in 1826 with the land Lottery held in 1827. Marion County was formed from Muscogee the following year, 1837. Taylor County was formed in 1852, so the same land would have been in these several counties. Willis and Nicey were married Mar 10, 1833 in Talbot County, GA. Nicey Martin was the daughter of Ananias and Frances Wright Martin of South Carolina. Her brother, Ananias Martin, also lived nearby. Based on the Tax Returns of Taylor County 1852 we know that Willis settled on land around Little Whitewater Creek (12th District) in 7 adjoining land lots with a land value of $5,000. Wilborn settled in the northwest portion of the county on the Pasiliga Creek (the 15th District) Marion County Deeds Jan 30th 1841 Willis buying from Thomas Burger 12th #151 [This is the location of Willis' log cabin] It backed up to White Water Creek, located about 1.5 miles east on the 1st dirt road north of the Little White Water Bridge [1997]. The log cabin was torn down in 1987. Carol Watson had a pine peg that was used to hold the front door facing onto the logs. The logs were still well preserved and used by the present owner to build a smaller building. Mar 1846 Willis Jinks buying Dist 12 Lots 119 and 139 from Edmund H. Franklin Dec 23, 1852 in Taylor County, but left GA and they made their home in Neshoba Co, MS. L.C.Q. Franklin was sheriff of Neshoba Co. MS, before and during the Civil War. Information from Franklin Family Bible. "Elizabeth, wife of L.C. Franklin, departed this life April 25th 1935, age 98 yrs 2 mo 13d". Birth: Feb 12, 1837. Living in Attalas County MS with name Elizabeth Franklin at time of father's death. 1880 Census Neshoba County. Listed with husband Lucius C Franklin. She outlived all her siblings, but we're not sure if they had maintained contact through the years or not. The other children lived on land deeded to them by their father, i.e. John F., Tolliver. William H. and Winnie Virginia moved to Texas. Mary Ella and her husband lived on the home place. Willis lived on the land all his life, and died Apr 1, 1885 and was buried in Bethel Primitive Baptist Church with a tombstone. His wife, Nicey, survived him, living until 1891 ca. We don't know her place of burial, but it is believed she was buried next to her husband, with small inscription on his tombstone, now illegible. It seems odd that Willis wasn't buried in the Jinks-Streetman cemetery, or where his mother-in-law, Frances Martin was buried about 3 miles north of the Tolliver Jinks homeplace. 1874 Willis Jinks to daughter, Jenny Ruffin Posted 05 Feb 2010 by varcsix STATE OF GEORGIA Taylor County DEED BOOK G p 509 Deed from WILLIS JINKS to JENNIE RUFFIN This indenture made this 30th day of March 1874 between WILLIS JINKS of the one part and JENNIE RUFFIN daughter of said WILLIS JINKS of the other part both of the state and county aforesaid. The 1850 census shows that Willis Jinks was born in Georgia and had $1200 in real estate, and that his wife Nicey was born in South Carolina. Elizabeth Jinks Franklin kept in contact with her family in Georgia, and her sister Ella Jinks probably visited her in Mississippi and later in Arkansas. Franklin Young remembers that an Aunt Ella visited his mother in Winston County, Mississippi and that they put her on a train to go back to Georgia. Robbie Dickinson knew of Ella Jinks telling that her father had a large farm and built his house right in the middle of his land in order to be as far away from his neighbors as possible. 1840 census - Marion Co Posted 24 Apr 2012 by varcsix 1840 US CENSUS MARION COUNTY, GA.. 853rd DISTRICT Pg 058 ROLL #46 OF MICROFILM 1840 listed as Willis Jenkins(sic) as the head of household and the following: Males 30 to 40 1 (Willis)ctw 15 to 20 1 (not sure who this male could be) 5 to 10 1 (son, John)ctw FEMALES Females 30 to 40 1 (Willis)ctw 40 to 50 1 Frances Martin)ctw 15 to 20 1 20 to 30 1 (Nicey Martin Jinks)ctw 5 to 10 1 (John)ctw Under 5 2( Betsy Ann)ctw The 15-20 year old male could have been Nicy's brother, Annanis W.
