She had been in feeble health for several months, but here death was very sudden and entirely unexpected even to her own family. She was a life long member of the Methodist church, one of the oldest inhabitants of our community, loved and respected by all who knew her. Too much cannot be said of her Christian character, s she led a life in humble submission to the will of her Master. The funeral services will take place today at 10 o'clock to be conducted by Rev. J.T. Adams, and her remains will be interred in the cemetery in Butler. She leaves a large number of friends and relatives to mourn their loss who have the sympathy of this community in their sad affliction. The deceased was about 60 years of age. ================= Hollum Sturdivant. According to his obituary in the Butler Herald on Tuesday 28 Jan 1896, he was born April 10, 1841 and died "at the residence of his kinswoman, Mrs. Pierson, near Arabi, Ga., January 22nd, 1896." The article also mentions two sisters, Mrs. Y. H. Caldwell and Mrs. Matilda Cotton. The Butler Herald Feb 18, 1902 Reprinted The Taylor Tracer Feb 2002 Death of Mrs. Y.H. Caldwell The sad announcement was received on Thursday afternoon of the death of Mrs. Harriet Caldwell, which sad event took place at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alice Gaines, near Ty Ty, GA on Thursday morning the 13th inst after a lingering illess. Mrs. Caldwell was the estimable wife of Y.H. Caldwell, deceased, a useful citizen and a greater portion of whose life was spent in this community. In early life she joined the Methodist church and found great comfort and happiness in the religion she professed; in fact her whole life was radiant with divine blessings and when the Master called He found her ready for the summons. She was loved by all who knew her and that she has passed to the great beyond leaves a vacany the world cannot fill. Mrs. Caldwell was in her 68th year of her age and leaves besides two daughters -- Mrs. Alice Gaines of Ty Ty and Mrs. Lee Groves of Florida -- many friends and relatives to mourn her loss. Her remains were brought to Butler and interred in the cemetery here on Friday afternoon. Truly a mother in Israel has fallen, but peace be unto those who have suffered this sad bereavement. [Harriet Sturdivant married Yelverton H. Caldwell Feb 17, 1861] Note:In Volume II of "Marriage and Death Notices from the Southern Christian Advocate" Issue of March 7, 1861, it reads: On 17th Feb., by Rev. W. G. Booth, Mr. Y. H. Caldwell to Miss H. E. Sturdevant, all of Taylor co., Ga. =================== In The Butler Herald on Tuesday, May 19, 1891 there is the obituary of Mr. Y. H. Caldwell who died 15 May 1891, 76 years of age. Also, in The Butler Herald, on 2 June 1891 there is a rather lengthy obituary, apparently for Y. H. Caldwell though the top of the article was missisng. Part of it reads: By his first marriage ten (childr)en were born unto them. Six of (the)m still live to morn the loss of an (indu)lgent (?) father. In 1860 he moved (to) Butler and Married Miss Harriet (E.) Sturdivant, Feb. 17th, 1861, by whom four other children were added to those already given, one of whom--a bright, beautiful Christian girl--preceded him to the home above a few short years since. On the morning of May the 15th, 1891, at his home in Burler, Ga., and while supported in the arms of his dutiful daughters, Alice and Yelver, the light and life that had moved, prompted and been his being for seventy five years--without a struggle, ceased to burn.
