Sept. 1, 1968 MEMORIALS In memory of Sister Rachel Respress Mangham The Lord in His all wise Providence, saw fit to call, Sept. 15, 1937 one of our beloved members, Sister Rachel Respress Mangham, from this low vale of sin and sorrow to her home above, where all is love. Sister Mangham was about sixty five years of age. She was married to Dr. J. E. Mangham - who preceded her to the grave some ten years. She joined the Primitive Baptist Church a good many years ago, joined New Hope Primitive Church by letter May 2, 1925, and has been a faithful member ever since. We bow in humble submission to an all wise God, who doeth all things well. Although we will sadly miss this dear Sister, we don’t mourn as one without hope, for we believe Sister Mangham left evidence that she was numbered with the blessed. She was a good neighbor, a faithful wife, and a kind and loving mother. Loved the doctring of Salvation by Grace, was modist and retireing. Blessed with this worlds goods and could have dressed and displayed her wealth, but she prefered to adorn her self in modist apparel, sobrity and good works. She was all ways thoughtful to contribute to her pastor and the unfortunate of the “house hold of faith.” So from this evidence we believe she is “A sleep in Jesus.” We extend love and sympathy to her berieved son, sisters, nieces and nephews. May the dear Lord be with you in this sad hour for He and He a lone can give comfort and peace to the berieved. Therefore be it Resolved - That a copy of these resolutions be spread on our church record, a copy sent to her son and one to her niece, Mrs. Harry Chambers. Clyde Eubanks Pearl Blythe In memory of Sister Lou Dixon Ogburn - It is with a sad heart we record the death of our beloved Sister Lou Dixon Ogburn, who departed this life July 27, 1941 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Council, Athens Ga. Sister Ogburn was born in 1871, was married to William H. Ogburn - She leaves to mourn her death, one daughter, Mrs. J. C. Council, Athens, Ga., one son, Mr. Otis Ogburn, Reynolds, Ga., five grand children and other loved ones. Therefore be it resolved - The Church at New Hope has lost a beloved member, The children, a devoted mother. The community, a kind and useful citizen. We bow in humble submission to an all wise God, who doeth all things well. We grieve not as one with out hope, for we believe our loss is her eternal gain. May the grace of God abide always with her children and loved ones, and point them to Jesus, who a lone can comfort the bereaved. The funeral services were conducted by Rev.’s Smith and Dunn, who spoke words of comfort to her loved ones and friends, after which her body was laid to rest in the New Hope cemetery to await the second coming of our Lord. Second resolved - That these resolutions be spread on our church record, a copy sent to her children. Clyde Eubanks Pearl Blythe In memory of Bro. J. S. Patrick - Whereas it has pleased our heavenly Father, who doeth all things well, to call from this world of sorrow and pain to that long sought rest and peace, our beloved Brother J. S. Patrick on March 1944. He was born Nov. 11 - 1870, and joined New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in 193 . Resolved, that we, New Hope Church, bow in humble submission to an all wise God, whose wisdom is past finding out. We will miss Bro. Patrick, but we believe our loss is his eternal gain. Resolved second - That we extend to his dear companion and children our sincere love and sympathy in this sad hour of bereavement. Resolved - That we spread these resolutions on our church record and send a copy to his family. Clyde Eubanks Pearl Blythe In memory of Bro. George Blythe - On May 20, 1947 our heavenly Father saw fit to remove from us by death one of our beloved members, Bro. George Blythe to his eternal and we are assured Heavenly home. He was borth Nov. 5, 1875, joined the Primitive Baptist Church at County Line in 1915, May 26. He joined New Hope Church by letter and was faithful to attend services as long as his health permitted. Our sympathy goes out to his loving companion and also to his children. Mrs. H. G. Eubanks Brother W. A. Williams Our Heavenly Father, in His infinite wisdom, has seen fit to remove from our midst our loved brother, W. A. Williams. Bro. Gus was born Nov. 29, 1866 in Taylor co. where he spent most of his life, leaving a host of friends without as well as within the church. He joined Mt. Nebo Church on May 10, 1930 and came to New Hope by letter on Feb. 4, 1945. A letter from Bro. Garrett of Mt. Nebo testifies the feeling of all of us when he says: “Bro. Williams was a faithful one we all loved.” He was indeed faithful, always ready and eager to go to meeting where it might be held or how long the trip. He was likewise strong in belief, was ready to defend the doctrine and practice of the church. Bro. Williams died Dec. 20, 1950. Leaving to mourn his passing are son J. D. Williams, and five daughters: Mrs. R. H. Parks, Mrs. W. L. McGinty, Mrs. Clara Eden, Mrs. Alma Farrow and Miss Lucille Williams. The funeral was conducted by Elder O. E. Comer assisted by Licentiate John Mangham. The members of the church feel keenly their loss but bow in humble submission to the will of our Heavenly Father whom we realize does all things well, feeling that our loss is His heavenly gain. John Mangham Pearl Blythe In memory of Louise Eubanks Nelson Even as we pen these lines - the words of a sweet old song comes to our mind and we are reassured that this, our sister, is safe in the arms of Jesus. With all our hearts we thank our loving, all wise Father that in His mercy he made it possible for her to confess before men her love for Him, and to share for even so short a time in sweet fellowship with the church. Sister Louise was born on Sept. 26th, 1908 and died on March 29, 1951. The funeral was conducted by Elder John Mangham, a member of her Church, assisted by Rev. W. W. Taylor of the Reynolds Methodist Church. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, John M. Nelson, three sons, John Jr., F. H., and Sammie, her parents, Brother and Sister Eubanks, three brothers, two sisters, many other relatives, and a host of friends. We pray God’s blessings upon each of these, but especially we beg His love for this bereaved husband, whose never undying devotion and care testify the deepness of his present sorrow. May our Father, in His mercy bring to his heart that comfort our words can never convey. During her last illness of several months duration, Louise drew ever nearer to Jesus. Truly in pain and suffering she was tried as if by fire, and all the dross was burned away, leaving a heart pure, holy acceptable unto God., having confessed her faith and trust in her Heavenly Father and expressed a desire for a home in the church. On Sunday afternoon March 4, 1951, the church gathered at her bedside, and the doors of the church being opened, she offered and was accepted for baptism. The sweet solemn unity of that service, the feeling that the Holy Spirit was indeed one among us to own and to bless, will always remain in the hearts of each one present. We bow in humble submission before the wisdom of an all wise Father, who carried her home with Him. May God comfort each sorrowing heart and may her bright, shining faith be as a light that guides our footsteps here blow and draws us even nearer to Jesus. John Mangham Pearl Blythe In memory of Sister Mattie Theus Hill - On the fourth of May 1952, our beloved Sister Mattie Theus Hill heard the summons “Child, your Father calls, come home.” Sister Hill was the daughter of the late Mr. John Theus and Doretha Wainwright Theus and was born September 9, 1860. Married Mr. Slate Hill in 18 ___. She leaves to mourn her passing away, one son and one grand daughter, Elbert Hill and Barbara hill of Macon Georgia, also a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In early life, Sister Hill had a wonderful experience of grace, but on account of a disturbance in the nearest Primitive Baptist Church to her, she did not unite at that time. Later she joined another order but was never satisfied. On the first Sunday in September, 1924, she joined New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, and was baptized by Elder John Woodward the same day. She made us a loyal, useful member, although in her latter days, she was deprived of attending church services, on account of ill health. Sister Hill lead a busy, useful life, all ways ready to help the unfortunate, was called on several times during her life to mother motherless children. She was a devoted, faithful wife, a kind, loving mother and a good neighbor. Her funeral was conducted by her pastor, Elder John Mangham, assisted by Rev. Ernest Saloom of Macon Ga., after which she was laid to rest in the Reynolds Hillcrest Cemetery to await the call of the Lord on the morning of the resurrection. Therefore be it resolved: That New Hope Church bow in humble submission to an all wise God, who doeth all things well. We will sadly miss Sister Hill, but we feel that our loss is her eternal gain. Resolved second: That, we extend to her son and family, who so devotedly cared for her in her last days and other loved ones our sincere love and sympathy during this sad hour. May the dear Lord send His Holy Spirit to comfort and heal their broken hearts, also to guide them through life’s uneven pathway. Resolved third: That a copy of these resolutions be spread on our church record and a copy sent to her son, also one sent to Mrs. Pearl Whittington, and one to Mrs. Edgar Boyd. Read and adopted in conference July 5, 1952. Clyde Eubanks Committee Addie Hammack On November 23rd, 1953, our Heavenly Father called Sister Annie Clyde Windham Eubanks from this low ground of sin and sorrow, to a home above, where all is love. She was the daughter of the late Mr. George Windham and Mrs. Hattie Pool Windham. Sister Eubanks was born January 31st 1876. She was happily married December 6th 1900 to Mr. Howard G. Eubanks. They lived together fifty three years. She leaves to mourn her death a husband, three sons and two daughters: Herman, Frank and I.C. Eubanks, Mrs. Ruth Eubanks Nelson and Mrs. Margaret Eubanks Waller. She also leaves eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. Sister Eubanks joined New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in February 1919 and was baptized by Eld. J. M. Woodward and was a faithful, active member. The funeral was conducted at New Hope church by Elders G. R. Hunt and O. E. Comer, assisted by Eld. Denney (her regular pastor being ill), after which her body was laid to rest in the family lot in New Hope Cemetery to await the resurrection morning. Therefore be it resolved: That New Hope Church bows in humble submission to an all wise God, who doeth all things well. We will miss this dear sister, who has proved her love by her kindness, hospitality, loyalty and devotion to her church. We mourn not as those who have no hope, for we believe our loss is her eternal gain. Resolved second: That we extend to her dear companion, children, grandchildren, and other loved ones our deep love and sympathy. May God in His great love and mercy heal your broken hearts and comfort you as only He can comfort. May He watch over you all the way. Resolved Third: That a copy of these resolutions be spread on our church record and a copy sent the family and one sent the “Good Will” for publication. Ann Eubanks Committee Pearl Blythe Read and approved while in conference January 3rd, 1954. Eld. John Mangham, Mod. Frank Eubanks, Clerk Protem Reynolds, Taylor Co. Ga. - May 2, 1954 In memory of Howard Griffith Eubanks - “Say not up for yourselves treasures up on earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Brother Howard Griffith Eubanks was born Dec. 6, 1870, the son of Isaac C. and Harriet Griffith Eubanks. He was united in marriage Dec. 6, 1900 to Annie Clyde Windham, and God blessed to walk together in this life almost fifty-three years, sustaining each other in their sorrows, rejoicing together in their joys, leaving behind them at least a rich testimony of love and devotion to one another, to their family, their church and their God. On the first Sunday in May 1920 Bro. Eubanks came before New Hope Primitive Baptist Church expressing a hope in Jesus and a love for what he believed to be his church and his people and was accepted as a candidate for baptism. He was baptized the following day by Eld. J. M. Woodard. He was ordained to the office of deacon the first Sunday in June 1936 and discharged the duties of this office faithfully as long as his health premitted. During the entire span of his church membership he stood as an example to all of us, for he never considered any task the church placed upon him as a duty, but rather as a privilege and labor of love. When in November 1953 our heavenly Father called his dear companion (and our sweet sister in hope) to that home beyond the skies, those who knew and loved him felt that Bro. Eubanks would not long survive her. And four months later, on March 13, 1954, he, too, answered that last summons. Bro. Eubanks was buried on March 15th, the funeral being held at New Hope Church, with Elders G. R. Hunt and O. E. Comer, two former pastors of the church officiating. He leaves to mourn his passing three sons and two daughters, eighteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many other loved ones. We feel that our brother has gone to a rich reward reserved for him through Jesus Christ our Savior and our Advocate, for in this life he plainly declared himself a stranger and a pilgrim on the earth and joined that great host who died in faith; wherefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God. The church at New Hope misses Bro. Eubanks as we continue to miss Sister Eubanks for, as they were one in their love and devotion to their church and their Savior, so shall they remain as one in our hearts and memories. But we realize we serve a God sho does all things wisely and well nad we bow before His will, praying that He shall bring that peace and comfort to this bereaved family that our words can never supply. John Mangham Committee Pearl Blythe This letter read and approved by New Hope Church, while in conference assembled.
