Grace of the county of Talbot and Jas J. Ruffin of the county of Taylor for and in consideration of the sum of Sixteen hundred and fifty dollars to him in had paid at and before the sealing of these present the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged has bargained and sold unto the said W.D. Grace all of my interest in the following Lots of land in the 15th district of Taylor County Nos 160, 161, 192, 224, 190, 129 also one hundred acres more or less of Lot 193 all being in the 15th District of Taylor. Also Lots Nos 80, 81, 112, 113 in the 12th District of Taylor containing Twenty one hundred acres more or less to have and to hold the said bargained premises unto the said W.D. Grace his heirs and assigns for ever and said J.J. Ruffin will forever warrant and defend the right and titles thereof against any person, himself, his heirs and assigns forever. In witness I have here unto set my hand and affix my seal in the presence of. Also my interest in Lot of the Saw Lumber of No one hundred and thirteen in the 15th district. Fowler, Clerk ============ Note: Lumber Mills and Sawmills Taylor Co. Census [printed Taylor Tracer June 2006] June 1, 1879 - May 31,1880 Owner: W.D. Grace $3,000 invested. Employs 6 hands; 12 months in operation ; procures logs from 853GMD; does own logging; Whitewater Stream; height of falls is 16 feet; 1 paddle wheel NOTE: James J. Ruffin married Sarah Averett, d/o Drury and Elizabeth Smith Averett Oct 1, 1837. W.D. Grace married Lourancy Averett d/o Drury and Elizabeth Smith Averett Sept 12, 1844. In Feb 23, 1857 Drury sold 9 lots of land to his son, Drury. In 1862, Drury was killed in the Civil War; "district by Nos 190, 161, 224, 192, 160, 130 and the undivided half of 193. Also 80, 81, 112 being in the 12th District of said county being in the interest of Drury Averett of the above subscribed lots of land which is the undivided half containing nine hundred and sixty one acres (961 acres) more or less to have to the said bargained premises unto the said Drury W. Averett" Drury, the father, died ca Dec 1869. Note the difference in years from the signing to the recording. Note: James J. Ruffin started a merchandising business in Butler, probably from this source of revenue. NOTE: July 23, 1850 Allen Averett bought from H.H. Mangum (Mangham grant) (Talbot Co. - Taylor formed 1852) 15th Dist LL192, 224; 12th Dist 80, 81 for $300. This deed was recorded right above the W.D. Grace - J.J.
