There is a Minute book in the Taylor County Ordinary's office that has some of the first public paid schools listed and the teachers and pupils that attended these schools. The teachers were paid from the county and were some times referred to as “Poor Schools.” The names were listed on a piece of lined paper and presented to the Ordinary of Taylor County, Ga. From E. In person appeared before the undersigned T. Goodyear who on oath says the foregoing school account is just and true as stands stated. Sworn to and subscribed before me this 7th February 1868.
