Richard Johnson, Com. of Pensions ------------------- -----------2/26/1897 Richard Johnson, Commissioner of Pensions, Atlanta, GA Hon. J.E. Davant Dear Sir - In examining claim of Mrs. Gaultney it seems proper to have further evidence & certain questions have been attached to the claim for separate answers from the witnesses. That a disease like dropsy should have been contracted and developed in the very short time that her husband remained in service hardly looks reasonable and it is better to have the proofs clear & answering (?) at the expense of time & trouble than to make a mistake. It is clear enought that dropsy may (be) the cause of death but that it originated in the service is not clear. Yrs truly, Rich. Johnson ------------------------- Dear Sir, See additional proof.
