A, 27th Georgia Infantry Confederate Private/Private A. J. Rogers Pvt, Co. A, 27 Reg't Georgia Infantry appears on Company Muster Roll of the organization name above for Jan & Feb 1864. He enlisted July 10, 1862 at Camp Randolph by Mr Dunwoody for the period of the war. Records show he was wounded at Chancellorsville VA, (May 2 to 6, 1863) on May 5, 1863 . Records also show he was issued clothing for July, August and September of 1863. A. J. Rogers appears on a Register of Jackson Hospital in Richmond VA. He was admitted Oct 3, 1864 from Colquitt's Brigade Co. A, 27 Regt Georgia with Erysipelas (?) and was furloughed Nov 10 1864 for the period of 60 days. A Statement of Service Reference Slip dated Aug 28, 1910 states that there were no further records found. Pension Application: Rodgers, Mary W. Taylor County 1891 Widow's Pension Paid to Mrs. Mary W. Rogers of Taylor County $100.00 Warrant Issued Mary W. Rogers/ Rodgers states in her Affidavit that she is the widow of A. J. Rodgers. He served with Co. A, 27th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers. He enlisted September of 1861 and that he died of chronic diarrhea contracted in the Confederate Service. She married A. J. Rogers/Rodgers on 9 Dec 1863 and that she has resided in Georgia since 22nd Oct 1839. Sworn to before M. H. Riley, Ordinary on the 18th day of April 1891 and signed with her mark. The Affidavit of her witnesses, Eli Stewart, J. F. Willis and Jno. C. Smith, of Marion Co., GA states that A. J. Rodgers died of chronic diarrhea after having been wounded by gun shot and on account of the wound lived only a short time after he marched home having had the disease above named while in the service and had to be assisted when ever he moved by being so reduced by the wound and disease. We state positively that we know he died in a very short time after he reached home of the disease. Sworn to before J. J. Windham, Ordinary of Marion County Georgia. Dated 28th day of April 1891. The earliest applications state A. J. Rodgers died 2 Oct 1865 but the date on later application give his death date as 3 Oct 1867. The records indicate that Mary W. Rodgers drew a pension until 1923. She died 20 Dec 1923 and an application for Pension due Deceased Pensioner was disapproved because she died before Jan 1 1924. Andrew J. and Mary W. Roberts Rodgers are buried in Prosperity Cemetery in Taylor County Georgia. Mary W. Roberts Rodgers was the sister of Georgia Roberts Meadows (submitters great grandmother) and step daughter of Lucinda Massey Shirah Roberts (daughter of Kimbrell Massey) and daughter of William and Zilphey Roberts. Andrew and Mary Rodgers descendants still live in Taylor County GA.
