It is alleged that on the night of November 27th he killed Oscar Cattle, at or near Charing. That the trouble resulting in the death of Oscar Cattle arose from a game of “skin,” the dispute terminating in the shooting of Cattle by Hill, a single barrel shot gun being the weapon used. Sheriff J.R. Beeland arrested the Hill negro and has him in the county jail awaiting a preliminary hearing which has been set for next Monday, December the 9th at Butler and before Judge J.T. Adams. Quite a number of witnesses have been subpoenaed and the decision of the hearing is awaited with interest. The Butler Herald Thursday, December 19, 1918 Page Three Jim Hill, colored, who was charged with the killing of Oscar Cattle, also colored on the night of November 27th, in Charing, was tried before Judge J.T. Adams in the justice court here Tuesday and bound over to the superior court charged with manslaughter. His bond was fixed at $500 which it is believed he will be able to make in a few days.
