Woodward Burned Between one and two o’clock on Thursday night last the beautiful residence of Mrs. J.L. Woodward with its mantles of marble and its elegant finish located about twelve miles north of Butler, was discovered to be on fire by someone living on the premises. The only occupants of the building were Miss Lucy, Mr. O.L. and Mrs. J.L. Woodward, who were fast asleep and narrowly escaped with their lives. When the fire was first discovered almost the whole top of the building was in flames and the building with its entire contents, except two beds and one suit of clothes belonging to Mr. O.L. Woodward was consumed. The building contained eleven well furnished rooms and was considered the most handsome residence in the county. It was built by Mr. J.A. Cameron in 1860 or ’61 and for over twenty years Mrs. Woodward has carried a policy of $3,000 on the building and furniture until last fall, when she reduced the policy to $2,500. The cause of the fire is not known. The loss falls heavily upon Mrs. Woodward who was bereft of her husband a few months ago and now without a home. May the Lord bless and comfort her.
