They following program was delightfully carried out: Monday evening, Dec. 23rd – The home of Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Wallace given to the young people. Tuesday evening, Dec. 24th – A brilliant display of fireworks on the courthouse square Wednesday evening, Dec. 25th – Christmas tree for Baptist and Methodist Sunday Schools Thursday evening, Dec. 26th – An evening of notable pleasure at the home of Miss Lizzie Mauk Friday evening, Dec. 27th – Miss Ouida Chapman hostess to her friends at the home of Mrs. S.A. Peebles. Monday evening, Dec. 30th – a brilliant reception given by Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Wallace – Misses Helen and Annie Montfort “At Home” to their friends. Tuesday evening, Dec. 31st – Misses McGee’s friends enjoyed the hospitalities of their home. Wednesday evening, Jan. 1st – Miss Cora Fowler, hostess to her friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. T.F. Layfield. Thursday evening, Jan. 2nd – Miss Bessie McCants to her friends, complimentary to Miss Ross, as mentioned elsewhere. Friday evening, Jan. 3rd – Miss Oliva Shirah entertained a few guests. The Butler Herald Tuesday, January 7, 1896 Page Three On the (article torn) a nice entertainment was given by the Sunday school children at the Methodist church. There was a nice audience out and the services were introduced by singing and prayer and appropriate remarks by Mr. P.B. Griffith, Supt. A beautiful acrostic by Mrs. Gostin’s class composed of Ora Hicks, Elba and Edna Sanders and Mattie Lou Adams. “Jesus became a little child” by Frederick Griffith. “The Star of Bethlehem” by Ignatius Griffith, “The Songs The Angels Sung” by O.A. Hicks “I Always Shall be Very Good” by Lillian Pool. Miss Berta Souder led the music. It was a delightful occasion. A Christmas tree at College Hall Thursday evening was enjoyed by all present. It was a pretty tree and on it were two little brown jugs, one for Prof. Mangham and one for this scribe, and each one was filled with a nice quantity of good apple vinegar. The merchants had a fine trade and all have pleasant smiles. Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Cameron entertained a few of their special friends at their home Christmas day. The social features of the day was indeed pleasant while the dinner was a real country feast. Mr. and Mrs. Cameron always know how to make their friends feel pleasant when among them. Everybody enjoyed the Sunday school Christmas tree Wednesday night. The tree was a large and beautiful one and contained many handsome and costly presents.
