Thomas Took, one of the most reliable colored men in the county, and a 
prosperous farmer, had the misfortune of losing his home and all its contents 
by fire a few nights ago.  The family was aroused about two o’clock in the 
morning and had to hurry out of the building to prevent it from falling in on 
them.  Nothing was saved and no insurance was carried.  It is thought the fire 
originated from rats.
