Residence Burned

We are sorry to state that Mr. Willis Carroll, an industrious farmer living in 
the southern portion of the county near Stewart’s mill, on the farm of Mr. 
Bennett Stewart, had his house and its entire contents destroyed by fire on 
Sunday the 18th inst.  Mr. Carroll and his family left home early in the 
morning to visit and neighbor and he had not been absent long before his house 
was discovered by a negro man to be on fire, but was unable to save either 
building or contents.  Mr. Carroll is a gentleman who has a large family and 
was apparently in good circumstances, but when he returned home he found his 
little all gone.  We hope the people will contribute liberally to his relief. –
