Not anywhere can a jollier or more congenial set of young people be found than in Butler. They believe in a good time and the round of parties, straw rides, card parties, etc., at this time showed that they do not intend to lose any of their reputation in this line. Something had been planned for most every evening, and at no time were any lacking somewhere to go, in fact, on several occasions, ‘twas hard to decide where to go – so much “doing” you know. Saturday evening, Christmas Eve, all were entertained by a Christmas tree at the Courthouse; Messrs. H.P. Wallace and Ira Waters worked as substitutes for Santa Claus, dispensing the gifts. Monday evening the young people were most delightfully entertained by Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Mathews at their pretty home on Reynolds Street. Beautiful music was a pleasing feature of the evening. Tuesday evening the remaining articles at the Bazaar were disposed of, after which the young people took charge and devoted the other portion of the evening to having a general good time. Wednesday afternoon, thru the courtesy of Mr. Ira Waters, a party of about fourteen young people were given a straw ride. They visited Reynolds, returning home in the afternoon. All report a jolly, good time. Miss Rawls had as her guests Wednesday evening Misses Elise and Jeanette Wallace, Elia Respess Pearl and Livy Montfort; Messrs. Will Neisler, Gray Windham, Otis Monfort, Robert Childs, Grover Salzer and Martin Chapman. This handsome home was lavishly decorated with Xmas garlands. An elegant four- course dinner was served after which the guests were entertained with cards. Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Peagler entertained in honor of Mr. Peagler’s Sunday school class. An observation contest was the leading form of entertaining. Also on the same evening Miss Bessile Slappy entertained quite a number of friends in her usual attractive manner. Friday evening Misses Eula and Sallie Wilson entertained quite a number of friends. Cards and various other games were indulged in till a late hour when delicious refreshments were served. Each one present reports one of the most delightful affairs of the holiday season. Saturday evening Dr. and Mrs. G.W. Fickling entertained most charmingly at their pretty home on College Street. While the weatherman wasn’t very accommodating, yet quite a large crowd was present and all report a very delightful evening. During the week several entertainments were given on the level and other places near town, too numerous to mention, to all of which our young people received cordial invitations.
