Dear Sir: Please say to my friends and relatives that I am still in good health and getting along nicely with a good kind warden and I am making my time like a man. Everything here is much better than is usually found in a Georgia county chain gang. I have only nine months more to serve and will then be back in old Taylor again. John Hinton is also here and is making a good prisoner. He, like the rest of us, has nothing to do but work. There are about fourteen blacks and as many whites in this gang. We build anywhere from three to five miles of good road each week. Prison life in Georgia has been robbed of its bitterness since the abolishment of the cruel lease system, if the word of old time prisoners is to be taken, we have one man that has been here for over twenty years. Only for the stripes you would take us for a bunch of neighbors met to work the road. Hoping to be with you all soon and that this will be a lasting lesson to me. I am with great respect, Earnest Thompson Milan, Ga. R.F.D.1. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
