Preliminary Trial at Reynolds Thursday- Charged with murder in connection with 
death of Mr. O. N. Paris

Mr. W. J. Theus, a prominent citizen of Reynolds, was given a preliminary 
hearing at Reynolds thursday afternoon last, before Justices of the Peace H. 
H, Aultman and . T. Adams, upon a warrant sworn on by the mayor of Reynolds 
against Mr. Theus charging him with murder in connection with the death of Mr. 
O. N. Paris.
A week previous to the death of Mr. Paris he and Mr. theus met on the streets 
of Reynolds and engaged in a difficulty in which Mr. Theus was badly cut by 
Mr. Paris while Mr. Paris received a fractured skull, a broken arm and a 
number of bodily bruises at the hands of Mr. Theus and which were prodeuced 
with a piece of timber one by three about six feet long.
After hearing the sworn statements of a number of witnesses introduced by the 
State, together with the statement of Mr. Theus, the Justices follwing a short 
consultation announced that in their opinion the act of Mr. Theus was 
justifiable therefore dissolving the warrant and dismissing the case.
Whether the matter will be brought to the attention of the next grand jury for 
investigation has not yet been determined.
Owing to the prominence of both men their trouble and subsequent death of Mr. 
Paris, who was held in high esteem by all who knew him, cast a shadow over 
Reynolds as well as eliciting the deep sympathy of the entire town in behalf 
of the families of both tragedies to the greatly deplored tragedy.
