David Ceils Abbot 88 years old, died Saturday afternoon in the Montgomery 
Hospital in Butler. He had been in declining health for several years.
Funeral services were held at the Howard Methodist Church Monday at 10 a.m. 
with the Rev. Douglas Green, pastor of Howard Church, officiating, assisted by 
the Rev. Herschel Whitley, and the Rev. Jimmy Trice. INternment was in the 
family lot at Pine Level Church Cemetery.
Mr. Abbott was born October 29, 1874, son of the late David Albert Abbott and 
Recca Horn Abborr in TAllapoosa County, Ala.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Melinda Lou Verna Baker Abbott, to whom he 
was married May 1, 1901. They had been married 62 years. A retired contractor 
in carpentry, he had lived in Taylor County 47 years and was a member of 
Howard Methodist Church.
Other survivors include three sons, Rev Cecil Abbott, Lumpkin; Clarence E 
Abbott, Mauk; and George E Abbott, Columbus; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Reeves, 
Notasulga, Ala; one brother, J.L. Abbott, Jay, Fla; six grandchildren and 
three great grandchildren.
Serving as active pall bearers were John Sikes, James Ramsey, Wesley Young, 
Andrew Whitley, and E. B. Whitley and Talmadge Whitley.
Honorary pall bearers were Herman Vanlandingham, Clinton Clark, Quinton Clark, 
Hugh Perkins, Herbert Sealy, Joe Brown, Carl Brown, Bill Gee, Oscar MArtin, 
Willie Marin, and Ralph Montgomery
