Mr. John H. Adams

Autumn and “Fair time” brings vividly to our minds one who is no longer with us
and whose place we find vacant on all sides.

On July 16th, 1918 Mr. J.H. Adams put the finishing touches on a life work that
stands as his most fitting memorial, and fell asleep.  His life had not been
long – it began November 16, 1869 – and yet, life cannot be measured in days and
months and years.  Deeds, love, service, heart-throbs are the things that
measure its length, and in these Mr. Adams had lived long indeed.

His county, his community, his church, his school, all remember well his ready
services, and with the memory comes the thought of the smile ever there.

He became one of the deacons of his church in 1906 and Old Shiloh never had a
more consecrated or more faithful worker.  Perhaps, too, she had no member so
well-loved, alike by old and young.

In more ways than one Mr. Adams “had built his house by the side of the road.” 
No one was turned away, he was indeed, a friend of man in the broader and
noblest sense.

He has left with us a family of loved ones.  We can ask for them, nothing better
than that his sons will grow into his likeness, strong, noble, manly, and that
in after years it may be said of the girls, “They are an honor to their father.”

For the wife and mother, we would ask that his spirit be ever with her, and that
the arms of his sons soon comfort her as his did in the years that are gone.
