Adams Truly death loves a shining mark! On April 7, 1919, the Death Angel visited our home and took from us our dear wife and mother, Mrs. E.A. Adams. Oh, how hard it is to give her up, how sad and vacant seems the house without mama there. But God says: “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God,” and He had a better place for her where there is no death or sorrow. We cannot see dear mama on earth again, but by the grace of God we can meet her in a world above where there is joy, peace and love. She was a kind and loving wife, a devoted mother, a good friend and neighbor. None knew her but to love her. The cause of her death was heart trouble from which she had suffered several years. She was near 72 years of age at the time of her death. It is so sad to know we have said goodbye to mama for the last time on earth. But weep not, dear papa, brothers and sisters, for God says, “Thy will be one,” and we must try to be reconciled to His will. Dark this world and dreary Since that well remembered day When they took our blessed mother From her earthly home away. And they bore her to the hill tops, Gently laid her in her tomb Where the green trees were above her And the flowers sweetly bloom. Long her feeble steps had warned us Long we saw it on her brow But it breaks our hearts to say it We have lost our mother now. Dear mother, how we miss you In our earthly home below But in Heaven we long to meet you Where no parting tears ever flow. We are lonely since you left us And our cross seems hard to bear For our home is sad and lonely Since there is no mother there. On your grave we place the roses And they droop and wither lie But your memory lives forever In our hearts it will never die. Though we miss you here, dear mother Long for you, but all in vain There is one bright thought that comes to us That our loss has been your gain. Written by her devoted daughter, Mrs. Bessie Garrett Additional Comments: Transcriber's note: Sarah Jane was the daughter of David Gaultney and Nancy Owens. She married Ezekiel Amos Adams, Jr. on November 29, 1863 in Taylor County, Ga. Ezekiel and Sarah had nine children together. Sarah is buried beside her husband at Bethlehem Church Cemetery in Taylor County. She was my great-great grandmother and I would enjoy corresponding with anyone related to this family.
