Caldwell Died at Talbotton Saturday Mrs. Amelia Vardell Caldwell, widow of the late Justice of the Peace, Preston Caldwell, for many years a prominent citizen of Butler, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Greer Maxwell, at Talbotton Saturday after an illness of only about one week. The remains were shipped to Butler Sunday afternoon, arriving here at 3 o’clock, and were carried to the Baptist church where impressive funeral services were held conducted by Dr. Robert H. Harris, pastor of the Talbotton Baptist Church of which Mrs. Caldwell had been a faithful member from the time of her removal from Butler to Talbotton, having been a valued member here up to that time. The concluding service and interment took place at the Baptist cemetery attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends who were present to pay a tribute of respect to the good woman whose long and useful life had been so full on unselfish devotion and love. Relatives and friends accompanying the remains from Talbotton to Butler included the following: Mr. and Mrs. Greer Maxwell and little daughter, Rev. R.H. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Mathew, Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Trussell, Mrs. John Robinson, Mrs. Florence Childs, Messrs. Benson Maxwell, J.T. Maxwell, J.H. McGehee and W.W. Childs. Mr. S.M. Caldwell, of Hawkinsville, met the remains at the train and was in attendance at the funeral. Mr. Caldwell was the brother of the deceased’s husband. Previous to her marriage Mrs. Caldwell was Miss Amelia Vardell, member of a wealthy and influential South Carolina family, and come to Georgia and to Butler soon after her marriage to Judge Caldwell. Following the death of her husband several years ago she moved to Talbotton and resided there with her daughter until her death. Mrs. Caldwell was about 70 years of age and is survived by her two daughters: Mrs. Geo. Barry, of Bowie, Tex., and Mrs. Greer Maxwell, of Talbotton. Mrs. Caldwell became a member of the Baptist church in early life and remained a faithful, consistent member thereof until her death. She was abundantly endowed with those feminine characteristics of loyalty, love and devotion that constitute the model wife, mother and Christian and her whole life has been devoted to loving service to her family, her friends and her God. To the bereaved daughters and other loved ones, who feel a personal loss, we tender our deepest sympathy.
