Local News

Smith Dupree, aged about forty years, one of the most prominent and influential
negroes of Butler, died at an early hour Sunday morning following an illness of
ten days from paralysis.  Dupree had not been in good health for more than a
year, but his condition was not regarded serious until April 5th when he was
stricken with paralysis.  Funeral and interment were held Monday attended by a
very large gathering of his relatives and friends.
