A celebration of life and memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church 1335 Hwy 90 W, Mauk, Georgia, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, with visitation beginning immediately thereafter. A private burial will follow at Trinity’s Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Gibb is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles (Charlie) Stephenson Gibb; her sisters, Delilah Rose and Bertha Myers; her daughter, Carol Francis Gibb; her son, William Thomas (Tom) Gibb; her son-in-law, John Thomas (Tommy) Guined and a grandson, Gregory Eugene Guined. Mrs. Gibb was born in Miami, Florida, on March 3, 1935, the youngest daughter of the late William Nelson Myers and the late Thelma Irene Ralston Myers, both of whom left their homes in Pennsylvania and only met when they each had moved to Miami, Florida. She graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School in 1953 and went on to become a loving mother, homemaker, farmer’s wife, and faithful member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church since 1967. She taught canning and other classes for the University of Georgia Extension Service office in Taylor County, became Taylor County Georgia’s first female County Commissioner, and later worked for Southern States Landfill as a scale operator. She was a devoted caregiver of her late husband, Charlie, as his health declined over many years, was known for her caregiving talents to many who were ill (both family and friends), took friends in need into her home, and, finally, took care of her eldest sister, Delilah, for several years as Delilah battled Alzheimer’s until her passing in October 2017. Survivors include her foster brother, Alan Sands of Danville, Virginia; daughter, Pamela Anne Guined of Mauk, Georgia; son, Gerald Nelson Gibb (Julie Anne) of Fort Valley, Georgia; grandchildren, Deborah Gibb Clark (Ritchie) and Cynthia Gibb, both of Thomaston, Georgia; Kimberly Bledsoe (Randy) of Box Springs, Georgia; Elizabeth Franklin (Mike) of Smiths Station, AL; Rebekah Duncan (Phillip) of Fort Valley, Ga; Joshua Gibb (Carina) of Searcy, Arkansas; Jacob Gibb (Emilee) of Casper, Wyoming; Anna Gibb of Warner Robins, Ga; several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley is in charge of arrangements.
