Grace A telegram was received by Mr. W.L. Tillman yesterday afternoon announcing the death of Judge W.D. Grace at his home near Hatchechubbee. He had been in bad health for a long time, and his death is not a surprise to his friends, though it causes universal regret. He was a most valuable citizen and his death is a serious loss to the community in which he lived. He was a resident of this county many years ago but has since spend a greater part of his useful life in Taylor County, until a short time ago, when he moved to Russell county, Ala. He was sixty-two years of age. Few men were more beloved and respected by their acquaintances than Judge Grace, and he was deservedly poplar whenever he was known. His wife died only a few days ago. The grief stricken family and relatives have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sad bereavement. Additional Comments: Married Lourancy Averett Sept 12, 1844 in Talbot County died in 1874, he married Nancy Wesley Adams Loyd(widow) May 6, 1875. She was the older sister, of Rev. Joseph T. Adams who married W.D. and Lourancy's daughter, Sarah Elizabeth. She died Nov 21, 1878 Then he evidently married Sarah V. (unknown) because she appears as his wife in the 1880 Census for Taylor Co. The obit mentions that his wife died a few days before he did (even though she was about 20 years younger). They were in Russell, AL (right across the river from Columbus) He also was a prosperous Saw Mill owner on White Water Creek. He bought out the shares from the Drury Averett Children in 1862. I only have the one deed, the one from my g-grandfather, James J. Ruffin who had married Sarah Averett.
