Taylor COUNTY GA Garrett, Willis File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Angela Covington http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/taylor/obits/garrett.txt Willis Garrett Killed in Auto Accident on Highway 19, Friday (Published June 19,1964) State Revenue Agent Willis Garrett was killed and Harry (Ed) Mills was injured in a one-car accident 8 miles north of Butler on U.S. Highway 19 early Friday morning. Sgt H.V. Estes and Trooper J.C. Freeman said the ill- fated accident happened about 1 a.m. when Garrett, driver of the 1961 Ford, lost control of the car in a curve and overturned. Mills, a passenger in the car was admitted to the Upson County Hospital. Mr. Garrett made his home in Butler where he served as special investigator for the state revenue department. Funeral services were held for Mr. Garrett at 11 a.m. in Butler Methodist Church, Saturday with the Rev. Walter R. Evans, pastor of the Butler Baptist Church officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. C. Ted Bass, pastor of the church and Rev. Douglas Green, pastor of the Howard Charge Methodist Church. Internment was in the Bloodsworth cemetery. Born August 9,1922, he was a son of R.L. and Janie Terry Garrett of Taylor County. A state revenue officer, he was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a master mason. He was a graduate of Butler High School and a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Imogene Duke Garrett; one daughter, Sara Jane Garrett; his mother and his father of Charing, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Allie Callahan of Thomaston; three brothers, L.C. Garrett of DeLand, Fla., James E. Garrett, of Hawkinsville, and Ellis (Billy) Garret of Athens.
