Kimble W.D. Kimble, one of Potterville’s oldest residents departed this life at his home Friday night, December 31st*, after an illness lasting for several months, and was buried in the Potterville cemetery Sunday morning at 10:30, the funeral service conducted by Rev. C.H. Moore, assisted by Rev. S.B. Edwards and Rev. J.T. Adams. The remains were escorted from the residence to the cemetery by the Patriotic Order Sons of America, of which order he was a member true and tried. So under the “Stars and Stripes” his body laid to rest to await the general resurrection morn. Mr. Kimble was born in Taylor County July 23, 1839, and his boyhood and young manhood days were spent in the upper part of the county where he was born. He enlisted in the Confederate service August 9th 1863, Co. D, Bond’s Battalion and proved a valiant soldier, enduring the hardships of camp life and hard marches, and never falling under the enemy’s most deadly, musketry firing. He received an honorable discharge in Greensboro, North Carolina, May 22nd 1865. He was placed on the Confederate pension of this county 1903. He, with the rest of us, was also a pensioner upon God’s goodness and mercy during a long life, the latter part of which he gave himself to God and died with the full assurance of his acceptance to Divine favor. He is survived by one brother, H.W. Kimble, one son, J.F. Kimble and four daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Hudson, Mrs. Mamie Oliver, Mrs. Willie Windham and Mrs. Susie Poole. Also a brokenhearted wife to mourn their loss. Mr. Kimble had a host of friends and possessed the happy faculty of making friends wherever he went, who join the bereaved ones in their sorrow. *The date of death is given in the obituary as December 31st, however the date of the paper is December 6th, so this date is incorrect. I'm not a researcher of this family and don't know the correct date of death for Mr. Kimble. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
