Hill vjbhill@alltel.net February 10, 2004, 8:32 pm The Taylor County News, Oct. 21, 1976, No. 15 RITES ARE HELD SUNDAY FOR Mr. SAUNDERS Funeral services for Willis Douglas Saunders were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Lucy Chapel of Goddard Funeral Home with the Rev. Ramus Freeman and the Rev. Bill Hayes officiating. Interment followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Saunders died at his home in Reynolds, Friday, after a lengthy illness. Born in Taylor County on October 18, 1895, he was the son of the late John R. and Ida Whatley Saunders. Mr. Saunders was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, a member of Reynolds Masonic Lodge No. 695, a veteran of World War I and a retired machinist and machanic. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Allie Hill Saunders; a son, James Douglas Saunders of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hawkins of Mesa, Ariz. and Mrs. Lois Stiles of Canton, N.C., eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Goddard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Those serving as pallbearers were John, Gene, Johnny, James and Jimmy Saunders, all of Butler, John Carson of Tucker, Ricky Hill and Francis Carson of Reynolds. The honorary pallbearers included Guy Windham, Van Livingston, Jack Heath, Woodrow Wilson, Dr. Frank Sams, Dr. Edwards Whatley, A. J. Fountain, Joe Perkins, Harold Gates, Julian Whatley, Leonard Whatley, Virgil Powell, Dan Payne, Woodfin Hinton, Sydney Bryan, Edwards Cooper, Henry Hicks and James Gray.
