Mr. Harris was seventy-seven years of age, a confederate veteran and a life long citizen of the county, and who, during his long life of citizenship, was true to his convictions, he was ever found upon the side of morality, truth and sobriety, and his long life of fellowship with the Methodist church will tell for good in the ages to come. Mr. Harris was one of the prime movers and strong supporters in starting and maintaining the Butler Camp Ground, seven miles north of Butler, and each and all found shelter at his tent and sustenance at his well supplied table. None were turned away. Mr. Harris had been twice married. By the first union one son was born, Thomas J. Harris, who preceded his father to the grave several months ago. His second marriage was to Miss Stella Neisler, who is left with a bleeding heart and darkened home to survive him. He is also survived by several grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Smith and Miss Anna Harris, of Gray, Ga. Also one brother whose residence is at Gray. The remains of Mr. Harris were interred at Gray’s cemetery last Saturday afternoon, the funeral service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. L.A. Harrell, assisted by Rev. M.T. Gaultney.
