His father was a member of Co C, 28th Battalion Georgia Siege Artillery and he died at the battle of Olustee Florida February 20, 1864. His sister, Martha Jerusha Hamilton married Henry Lucius Layfield. Their mother married Thomas F. Layfield. William Thomas Hamilton married Perry Thomas Averett who was the daughter of Permelia Ann Layfield and Henry J. Averett) KILLED BY A SAW Butler, GA September 12, Mr. W.T. Hamilton was cut by a saw at his saw mill in this county on yesterday, from the effects of which he died at 1:30 o'clock last night. He was stepping over the log carriage in the saw house when his foot slipped and the saw being in rapid motion, cut through almost the entire length of his leg. He lived until 1:30 o'clock last night. Mr. Hamilton leaves a wife and several children. He was a brother to Mrs. J.T. Adams and a half brother of Mr. Ed Layfield of Macon
