Pioneer Citizen Passes Away

After Long Illness Mr. J.D. Jarrell, Died at His Home in This County, Wednesday
Morning

Mr. J.D. Jarrell, Jack Jarrell as he was familiarly known among his very large
circle of admiring friends, died at his home, 12 miles north of Butler, at 3
o’clock Wednesday morning.

He was 73 years old and had been a citizen of the county all of his life.

Mr. Jarrell had been in feeble health for several months, suffering from a
complication of troubles that refused to yield to treatment.

In point of native ability, good judgment, progressive conceptions and high
ideals, the deceased was above the average of his day.  He was a recognized
leader in agricultural pursuits, and a strong factor in the upbuilding of his
community morally and otherwise.  And withal he was a fine type of that old time
gentleman in every sense of the word.  A gentleman in deportment in his home,
among his fellow menand in his dealings with the public.  He will be sadly
missed, not only in his home and in his community, but throughout the county.

Mr. Jarrell is survived by six children, Messrs. B.H., T.D., S.J. and E.E.
Jarrell, Mrs. T.J. Harris and Miss Edna Jarrell; one sister, Mrs. W.A. Spinks,
together with his aged and beloved wife, who has been the comfort and joy of his
long life.

Funeral and interment took place at Antioch church cemetery yesterday afternoon
at 5 o’clock, the services being conducted by Rev. M.T. Gaultney.
