Mr. Martin was a model young man, a member of the Constantine Lodge No 130 K of P in this city. Oscar W. Martin, a flagman in the employof the Central Georgia Railway, was struck by a northbound passenger train shortly after 1 o'clock Thursday morning at Byron, near Macon and died while being carried to the Macon Hospital. After the accident the engine of his train was uncoupled and hurried to the city with the wounded man, but when the hospital was reached it was found that he was dead. The freight train on which Mr. Martin was working stoppd at Byron to await the passage of the northbound passenger. Though the manner in which the unfortunate man placed himself before the swiftly moving passenger is not known, it is supposed that he seated himself on the track to wait the passenger and fell asleep. The passenger does not stop at Byron unless signaled and the train was moving at a rapid rate when the body was struck. The engineer of the passenger stated that he saw Mr. martin's body an instant after it had been stuck. He was hurled several feet across the space that separated the double tracks. The lanter, carried by the train crew was lighted, it is understood, and was at the side of the track. Mr. Martin presumably was holding the lantern between his legs. Mr. Martin was 22 years of age and resided at Howard, where the funeral and interment took place, Friday, the remains being surrounded by a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives. The funeral service was appropriately conducted by Rev. J.T. Adams. Mr. Martin leaves two brothers, a sister and a host of friends to mourn his untimely end. He was born in Bibb County, GA, July 10, 1881, and departed life July 12, 1906. He was the son of John R. Martin and Sarah Arabella Parks Martin.
