In 1886 Brother Martin went to the City of Macon and engaged in the railroad business. Commencing at the lowest round in this business by close application to duty, perseverance and assiduity being his watchword, he soon found for himself a place in the confidence of his employers which prompted quick and rapid promotion, and soon he was ranking as one of the most efficient conductors of the Central Railway System. Brother Martin never professed to have attained to that perfection in this life that would place him beyond or above the faults and foibles incidental to human nature, but was actuated by true principles, devotion to duty and daily striving to discharge the obligations of the hour. The depth of his immortal nature was beautifully sounded in that love and unyielding devotion to his aged mother during his life and that beauty was not marred nor diminished but rather increased by his life as a husband. His suffering was long and great but all through the days and months he bore it with true Masonic fortitude, looking forward to the time when as a perfect ashler he might be ready for that temple not made with hands but returned in the Heaves. He leaves an aged mother, wife, one brother, four sisters, quite a number of relatives and a host of true friends who mourn their loss and to them we extend our heart and hand in love and sympathy.
