Born July 25, 1944, in Berrien County to Kathleen Bailey May of Nashville and the late Dewey Clayton “D.C.” May, he was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Butler City Council, Taylor County Jaycees and the Taylor County Foster Parent Association. He was an avid airplane pilot and race car driver. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Beatrice Kirksey May of Butler; three brothers, James (Nancy) May, Billy Jack (Weida)May, Wayne (Barbara) May, all of Nashville; two sisters-in-law, Lenda (Robert) Taunton, Brenda (Frank) Dowd, all of Byron; brother-in-law, Don Kirksey, Butler; 38 foster children; his dog, Patches; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held May 20 at 11 a.m. at Mount Pisgah Church in Butler with Rev. Fitz Brown officiating. A graveside service was held May 20 at 5 p.m. in Westview Cemetery in Nashville with Rev. Steve Pickern officiating. Buck Warren sang “I’m a Winner Either Way.” Pallbearers were Bill Perry, Ed Perry, Steve Perry, Dane Perkins, Bobby Polk, Bob Lovein. Edwards-McLeighton Funeral Home in Butler and Lovein Funeral Home of Nashville were in charge of arrangements.
